Lillian Mae Rains of Du Quoin

Lillian Mae Rains, 79, of Du Quoin, passed away at 9:03 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 29, 2020 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Lillian was a school bus driver for Du Quoin for 49 years. She was a perfect attendance member of XI IOTA Epsilon Sorority for more than 50 years. She was a member of the Old Du Quoin Baptist Church.

Lillian loved spending time with her family, having movies and dinner with her husband, and attending any function her grandchildren were involved in.

Lillian was born April 13, 1941 at Royalton, Illinois, the daughter of Noble and Charline (Humphrey) Smith.

Lillian married Homer Lamoyne Rains on Aug. 29, 1959 at the United Methodist Church in Royalton. He survives.

She is survived by her husband of Du Quoin; two daughters, Tracy (William) Taylor and Lisa (Jeff) Cook, all of Du Quoin; eight grandchildren, Shalane Reeves, Nolen (Christa) McIntire, Morgan (Tyler) Fitterer, Cameryn (Jon) Degler, Carleigh (Brandon) Spain, Spencer (Sarah) Cook, Kacie (Nathan) Jones and Toni (Jeff) Taylor; 13 great-grandchildren, Carter and Brantley McIntire, Laina and Landry Bietsch, Lennon Fitterer, Emmerigh and Archer Degler, Haidyn, Noble and Stella Spain, Micah, Owen and Ezra Jones; one sister, Betty (Don) Siefert of Du Quoin; one niece, Stephanie (Joe) Day of Du Quoin; and three great-nieces, all of Du Quoin.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Lillian was a faithful servant of the Lord, and modeled her life to represent this. She was a selfless caregiver to her family, friends and her extended families and children she cared for on her bus routes. Her giving soul will not be forgotten.

Graveside services will begin at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2020 at the Miners Cemetery at Royalton, with the Rev. Ted Clark officiating. Friends may call from 1:30 p.m. until the time of service on Wednesday at the cemetery.

Visitors must use social distancing guidelines, and everyone in attendance is required to wear a mask.

Friends are invited to make memorials in Lillian's name to the Old Du Quoin Baptist Church or Ronald McDonald House of Charity. These will be accepted at the funeral home.
