Phyllis J. Rowan of Du Quoin

Phyllis J. Rowan, 94, of Du Quoin, passed away at 4 a.m. on Friday, July 8, 2022 at her residence.

Phyllis was a homemaker and also worked at Blue Bell Packing for several years. She was a member of the St. John's United Church of Christ in Du Quoin. She had been secretary of the Harley Davidson Dressers Club.

Phyllis enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed playing the piano and organ, reading, working in the yard, taking care of her flowers, and calling and talking to friends. She and her husband, Gary, traveled all over the United States and Canada by motorcycle for 15 years, photographing every trip. They would sometimes travel with friends and other couples.

Phyllis was born on Sept. 25, 1927 in Du Quoin, Illinois, the daughter of Benjamin Franklin and Myrtle Pauline (Moore) Taylor.

She married Robert L. Struck Sr. She then married Gary Dale Rowan on March 7, 1970 in Du Quoin, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 20, 2014.

She is survived by four grandchildren, Tiphany (Robert) Cole of Du Quoin, Tim Struck (special friend Stacey) of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, Rick (Rhonda) Struck of Georgetown, South Carolina and Devin Leggans of Du Quoin; three great-grandchildren, Ian Leggans, Nick Struck and Aiden Struck; plus many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; one daughter, Polly Leggans; one son, Robert Struck Jr.; two brothers, Arthur Taylor and Bruce Taylor Sr.; and one sister, Pamela Happold.

Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 15, 2022 at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with the Rev. Robert Morwell officiating.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Friday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin.

Friends may make memorials to the Shriners Crippled Children's Hospital, which will be accepted at the funeral home.
