Meribeth 'Betsy' Lerner Highland of Carbondale

Meribeth "Betsy" Lerner Highland, 75, of Carbondale passed away Sunday, Feb. 13, 2022, at Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin.

Betsy was born Oct. 25, 1946 in Chicago to Charles J. and Janice R. (Leviton) Lerner. She married Gary A. Highland June 22, 1968, in Carbondale, and he preceded her in death April 7, 2021.

Betsy is survived by her three sons, John Highland of Chicago, Charles "Chuck" Highland, Robert "Bobby" Highland both of Carbondale; and sister, Cynthia Heckscher of Philadelphia, Pa.

Betsy was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and SIU Salukis. Along with her husband, Gary, she was a proud supporter of Carbondale Terrier athletics. She had been a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority.

Betsy was a homemaker devoted to her family and their many pets throughout the years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and her in-laws, Lewis and Dorothy Highland.

A memorial service will be held this spring.
