Aileen Odom West of Omaha

Aileen Odom West, age 92 and a longtime resident of rural Omaha, Illinois, passed away on Jan. 14, 2022 at the St. Joseph Hospital in Breese.

She is preceded in death by her late husband, Max H. West, whom she married on Sept. 17, 1954. Together, they farmed and raised Angus cattle for 53 years, until Max's passing on Jan. 29, 2008.

She was a member of the Cottonwood Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Aileen is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Donna Allen (Dale) of Carlyle; three sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis M. West (Lynn) of Omaha, Dean E. West (Trudy) of Harrisburg and David G. West (Tiffanie) of Bourbonnais; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Aileen was born April 28, 1929 to Earl and Ella (Carlton) Odom of rural Benton. They also precede her in death, along with two sisters, one brother, and their spouses: Earlene Whittington (John); Ruth Smith (Bill); and Thomas Odom (Ernestine).

Aileen is also preceded in death by two grandchildren, Ryan and Benjamin West, and two great-grandchildren, Kellen and Quinn West.

In earlier years, Aileen enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening and the Home Bureau Extension. Aileen's children remember her as a kind, loving and caring mother, and a devoted helpmate and best friend to their dad.

Donations in Aileen's memory may be made to the Illinois 4-H Foundation.

Visitation for Aileen will be held on Monday, Jan. 17 from 11 a.m. until service time at 2 p.m. at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Ridgway.

The Rev. Howard Stearns will officiate, and burial will follow at Palestine Two Cemetery near Omaha.
