William Allen “Butch” Butler of Crab Orchard

William Allen "Butch" Butler, age 75, of Crab Orchard, Illinois, passed away at 11:11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 13, 2021 in the Saline Care Center in Harrisburg, lovingly surrounded by his family.

Butch was born on Nov. 9, 1946 in Stonefort, Illinois, the son of Peggy Hill and Glen Butler. He married the former Shirley Graves on Aug. 27, 1966 at the Center Baptist Church in Crab Orchard.

Butch proudly answered the call to serve his country in the U.S. Army and was a Vietnam veteran. He was also a retired coal miner, a member of the Center Baptist Church, and a member of the U.M.W.A.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley, of Crab Orchard; his daughter, Vicki (Robert) Odum of Anna; his son, Michael Butler of Crab Orchard; two grandchildren, Zachary Odum and Andrew (Olivia Edwards) Odum of Anna; a sister-in-law, Gayla (Keith) Johns of Marion; nephews, Curt Randolph of Jeffersonville, Indiana and Justin Johns of Marion, Illinois; nieces Kera (Johnny) Wise of Carrier Mills and Jamie (Ben) Ragan of Carterville; and also several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Butch was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Sheryl Randolph.

Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 18, 2021 at the Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills. Friends may call at the funeral home after 12 noon. Burial will be in the Salem Cemetery with military rites consisting of flag folding and taps by the Marion National Guard ritual team.
