Barbara E. Casteel of Ava

Barbara E. Casteel, 73, of Ava, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 26, 2020 at her daughter's home in Carbondale, Illinois.

Barbara was born in Murphysboro, Illinois, on March 30, 1946, the daughter of William H. and Katherine B. Schott Casteel. Barbara was a member of Sato Baptist Church in Ava, Illinois.

She was a retired nurse from St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Murphysboro, and a paramedic for the Jackson County Ambulance Service. Barbara had also worked as a social worker.

Barbara is survived by her children, Krista (Cheryl) Allsup of Hurst, Illinois, Michelle Kay (Michael) Asa of Carbondale and Kent Schorn of Campbell Hill, Illinois; her grandchildren, Alacia Schorn (Travis Ruffing), Lucas Asa, Grace Lehnhoff, Emily Lehnhoff, Eli Lehnhoff, Katie Asa and Lily Schorn; and the special family who cared for her, Charles (Sharon) Petry, Roger (Alice) Jones, William (Stacy) Schott, Nikki Schorn and John Bigham.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Howard Anderson.

Private graveside services will be held on Monday, Nov. 30, 2020, at Ava Evergreen Cemetery in Ava.
