Backstoppers raise $15,913.34 in drive

The Randolph County Backstoppers chapter would like to thank the community for helping to makes its first Boot Drive May 13 a big success. With 11 towns participating, the countywide effort collected $15,913.34. Event organizer Rich Reitz said the total exceeded their expectations and "shows how supportive and generous people really are toward our fire, police and emergency service organizations."

Free kids orthopedic clinic May 27

The South District Elks Lodges, in cooperation with the Illinois Elks Children's Care Corporation, will sponsor a free children's orthopedic assessment clinic from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, May 27, at the Marshall Browning Hospital, 900 N. Washington St., Du Quoin.

Dr. Alan Froehling from Mount Vernon will see patients by appointment only. To make an appointment call the Illinois Elks Children's Care office at (800) 272-0074 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

No medical referral is necessary; physicians are welcome to refer patients for a specific reason or second opinion, as are school nurses.

The clinic is an ideal time to have a child reviewed for bone and joint development. If your child has feet pointing out or in who complains of back, knee, leg, ankle pain or has a back curvature, they can be seen at this clinic.

There is no charge for any diagnostic services at this clinic.

The Elks will provide financial assistance to the best of their ability for children needing further treatment or specialty equipment when the family lacks sufficient resources to do so.
