Longtime WEBQ broadcaster Sonny Dotson honored by Harrisburg

HARRISBURG - Longtime WEBQ radio announcer Sonny Dotson received commendation from the city of Harrisburg at the start of the city's council meeting Thursday.

"Today we congratulate Mr. Sonny Dotson on his retirement from WEBQ Radio in Harrisburg," Mayor John McPeek said, in announcing the honor. "His career has entailed involvement and leading several initiatives and organizations within the community, but above all else, has shown a heart for Harrisburg and Saline County. It was a great honor to be able to present the "Mayor's Service Award" to Sonny in commending and thanking him for his dedication to our community over the years."

Dotson received a heavy round of applause from those in attendance, and said he was humbled by the recognition.

"I thought they might be up to something like this when they asked me if I could attend tonight," Dotson joked.

Dotson spoke briefly, urging the city and its residents to work past differences for the common good.

He advised that people remember "what a wonderful place Harrisburg is and what we can all accomplish by working together."

McPeek said Dotson's recognition was well-deserved.

"We wish him well in his retirement and thank him again for his countless years of dedicated service to Harrisburg," McPeek said.
