Illinois 142 roadwork starts Monday

ELDORADO - The Illinois Department of Transportation announced Thursday afternoon that a major road construction project on Illinois 142 north of Eldorado will begin Monday, causing lane reductions.

Weather permitting, according to the news release, the project will begin at 7 a.m. The project will be located on Illinois 142 from the south city limits of Eldorado to three miles south of the Saline/Hamilton County line. The project then continues at the county line to McLeansboro.

The resurfacing project will require lane closures, according to IDOT. Traffic will be reduced to one lane and controlled by flaggers. Work includes pavement patching, asphalt surface removal, asphalt paving and pavement markings.

Drivers should reduce speed, be alert to equipment and workers and use extreme caution while traveling through all work zones.

IDOT urges drivers to seek alternate routes to avoid delays. Emergency vehicles will be allowed through the work zone as quickly as possible.
