New Michael Hillegas DAR officers announced

SALINE COUNTY - The Executive Board met recently to review the missions of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution: to promote historic preservation, education and patriotism. These missions will form the basis for the yearly chapter programs.

In order to educate and enlighten Daughters in ways to support these endeavors, the chapter will have Recognition events for Veterans and participate in other veteran events that honor our veterans. Constitution Week will be celebrated with school activities, proclamations from mayors, Southeastern Illinois College, and county Board Chairman as well as displays in each library in the county. A flag retirement ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 7 at the Harrisburg Park. This is a community event being planned by several organizations.

We will also be involved in other programs dealing with women's issues, flag etiquette, and recognition of good citizen winners and DAR scholarship winners.

Consider membership in NSDAR, a volunteer women's service organization that honors and preserves the legacy of our patriot ancestors. You can continue this legacy by actively promoting patriotism, preserving American history and securing America's future through better education for children.

If you are interested in belonging to our group, the first chapter meeting will be Saturday, Sept. 21, 2019. We meet at the First United Methodist Church Parlor at 122 W. Poplar Street in Harrisburg, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
