Insect awareness day Saturday

GOLCONDA - War Bluff Valley Wildlife Sanctuary will have its 24th Annual Insect Awareness and Appreciation Day beginning at 3 p.m. Saturday.

The sanctuary is located at 228 Bushwack Road, Golconda.

From 3 to 5:30 p.m., there will be field trips, insect crafts and face painting. A potluck dinner will follow at 6 p.m. Organizers ask that those participating bring a dish to share. A main dish will be provided.

There will be a raffle, an "insect open mic" and music in the evening with RogAnBob. The program, sponsored by the Shawnee Chapter Illinois Audubon Society, is free and open to the public. All are welcome.

Participants are encouraged to bring a lawn chair and a friend and favorite beverage.
