Masonic lodge in Goreville hosts car and truck show

GOREVILLE - Members of the Saline Masonic Lodge in Goreville hosted its eighth annual Car & Truck Show & Auto Swap Meet Saturday under a brilliant blue sky - and as the organization has always done in prior shows, served up lots of fried fish and french fries for those who brought their appetites along with their classic cars and trucks.

Greg and Tammy Sullivan of Marion were there with their beautiful, brilliant red 1967 Chevy Camaro.

The personable pair seemed perfectly content sitting in their lawn chairs set up under a tent top just a dozen feet behind their classic car enjoying the day.

When asked whose car it was, Greg quickly answered, "It's hers!"

That elicited a big laugh from Tammy, who admitted it was true.

"It was my idea to buy it and rebuild it," she said. "I like to call it our car, but he always refers to it as mine."

Unlike many classic car and truck owners at such shows, the Sullivans are not retired yet, Greg saying, "I'm a trucker and Tammy is my secretary."

Just a few cars further in the same row, retired car dealer Bill Absher, also of Marion, was spotted taking a few photos of other show vehicles.

Quite a transition from selling them to showing them, but apparently one that suits Absher just fine.

"It's a fun hobby and I've always enjoyed it," he said.

Not far from all the beautifully restored cars and trucks, Jack Vahle was busy frying fish and French-fried potatoes for anyone who opted for the tasty lunch plates while at the show.

"It's proven to be really popular with both the owners and those who just come to look," he said. "We're also proud that our community and surrounding area support this every year."
