The season of giving is nearly upon us, and as the leaves fall and temperatures drop, a local business is taking the initiative to help those less fortunate.
Steeleville-based United Ironworkers, Inc. is conducting a winter coat drive for new or gently worn coats, hats and gloves for ages toddler through 17 years old. Sweatshirts are also being accepted and money donations are welcome.
A school teacher from Steeleville recently contacted staff at the business with a plea for help, stating that students of all ages were coming to the school without cold weather apparel.
Dropoff sites are the United Ironworkers' Steeleville office (5656 State Route 4), Iron Ford in Sparta (1221 North Market St.) and Glik's in the Sparta Center (1371 Sparta Center Dr.).
The final dropoff day is Nov. 17. For more information, call 618-965-2222.
If you know someone who could use the items, send their name, age, school, and, if possible, size to
