Two men charged with beating man, setting him ablaze

HARDIN COUNTY – Two men are charged with attempted murder and aggravated arson after a Hardin County man was stabbed and set on fire near Saline Landing.

Joshua M. Mohring, 24, and Shawn A. Walton are accused of attacking Andrew Nicklaus, first beating him, then stabbing him and setting him on fire.

Nicklaus was taken by air ambulance to an undisclosed hospital. His condition is unknown.

According to Hardin County State's Attorney Daniel Cockrum, both Mohring and Walton were charged with attempted murder and aggravated arson in the incident.

In addition to the Hardin County Sheriff's Office, Illinois State Police and the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal are investigating. Preliminary hearings are slated for Aug. 22.
