Du Quoin Public Library to display nature photos

If you're a photographer, professional or amateur, you probably already know about the Du Quoin Public Library's photo gallery.
The gallery is a piece of the library wall, 24 feet long and 30 inches high. But to the artist chosen to exhibit, it's a public canvass, a chance to share what he or she loves to do.
"Our photo gallery and the receptions draw more visitors, different visitors, to the library and, at the same time, add to their experience," Director Kristina Benson said. "But it also gives local photographers a venue."
Four times each year, the library invites local photographers - resident and non-resident library patrons - to submit original works, representing specific topics, chosen by the library board. The topic for spring, April to June, is nature, specifically birds, fish, amphibians, reptiles, insects, butterflies and mammals.
Today, April 7 is the final day to submit photos for the upcoming exhibit. Information sheets are available at the library that list the competition's conditions, including photo sizes, matting and framing, and required information cards and hanging hardware.
Each photographer must complete an exhibit application form, also available at the library. Completed forms should be delivered to Benson.
A gallery reception will be held at 6 p.m. April 10, for the winner.
The theme for summer's photography exhibit will be sports, and for fall it's pets. For more information, contact Benton at 618-542-5045 or kbenson@duquoinlibrary.org.
The Du Quoin Public Library is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Fridays and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays.
