HARRISBURG – The Saline County Board voted unanimously to name Jayson Clark Saline County state's attorney in a special meeting Thursday.

Clark, 40, was appointed to fill the position left vacant by the passing of previous state's attorney Mike Henshaw, who died Wednesday, March 22. Clark was an assistant state's attorney for Henshaw's office.

Clark made some brief remarks to the board.

"I'm going to make everyone of you proud who voted yes tonight, I promise you," Clark told the baord. "The other thing I want to say is, I'm going to do everything I can to make Mike Henshaw proud and do what he would want me to do which is be fair to everyone, be compassionate when the time is called for, but be tough on those people that need to be locked away for a long, long time."

He also vowed to work for the best interests of the county.

Clark received a standing ovation from the board and others in attendance at the meeting.

Board member David Phelps, an Eldorado native like Clark, commended the board for its decision and Clark for being "a person of great integrity."

"I commend all of you for appointing him, such a quality person he is," Phelps said.

Clark said he likely will be sworn in by a judge at the Saline County Courthouse this morning.
