Get moving with NubAbility's virtual Rudolph Run

DU QUOIN - The nonprofit NubAbility® Athletics Foundation will hold a virtual 5K on Saturday, Dec. 26 as a fundraiser for the organization.

The Rudolph Run Virtual 5K will be partnered by a Family Fun Run, in which family members can run, cycle, swim, roll, walk or use gym equipment such as a treadmill or elliptical - as long as they cover a distance of one mile.

The Fun Run is free and participants will get certificates or medals for completing it.

Registration fees for the Rudolph Run are $25 per adult and $15 per child. The Top 25 adult runners and all child runners will get T-shirts as prizes.

In a virtual race, runners pick a location of their choosing - it could be on the grass, sidewalk, trail, track or treadmill. To compete, runners capture their distance and time using a fitness app such as Nike Run Club and submit it to the race sponsors.

"A virtual race seemed like a fun way to get people off the couch," said NubAbility founder and executive director Sam Kuhnert. "We may not be together but we can still compete together."

Race results need to be submitted by 6 p.m. on Dec. 26.

Southern Illinois Healthcare (SIH), IBEW Local #702 and Nike are sponsoring the event.
