Former Harrisburg man accused of killing his mother

A former Harrisburg man is in custody, accused by Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Police of the murder of his mother.

According to The Gazette newspaper, Cedar Rapids Police Officers responded 11 p.m. Friday to a reported "disturbance with a weapon" at 624 Old Marion Road NE and found the body of Anita Labkon, 68.

Police arrested Edward Cusic, 44, on a charge of first-degree murder. Cusic indicated to investigators his mother had threatened him inside the residence with a dagger and he struck her with a crowbar, according to the newspaper.

Neighbors told the newspaper Labkon and Cusic lived together at the rented residence.

Cusic was in Harrisburg as recently as Sept. 29 of this year with an address of 810 W. Poplar St. when he was arrested on a charge of failure to appear and held on $1,000 cash bond.
