Dorrisville Baptist Church school supply giveaway is Sunday

More people are giving to the program, but at the same time more people are in need because of high energy prices and inflation.
"We added 100 bags this year because we have a lady who worked at family services who said they are seeing more people," Judy Taylor said.
From 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, kids in need will be able to stop by DBC with their parents, pick up a bag of school supplies, a new pair of gym shoes, a haircut and a meal. The church is prepared to help about 436 pupils, Taylor said.
About 30 volunteers put together back-to-school bags Thursday morning. The bags include items such as tissues, erasers, Elmer's glue, markers, glue sticks, crayons, scissors and a black Sharpie marker. The bags follow the list of school supplies supplied for each grade by the Harrisburg School District, Taylor said.
People from Payless Shoes -- the company from which the gym shoes were purchased -- will be on hand to help determine kids' sizes, Taylor said. The haircuts will be given by licensed cosmetologists.
Everything left over will be donated to teachers who need extra supplies or the Carmi Children's Home.
"They always need supplies," Taylor said.
There will also be entertainment such as singing groups, and a dinner for people who stop at the church.
"It is a challenge to get it all together. It takes a lot of people working together," Taylor said.
