Shawnee Forest Vienna ranger station holding open house

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The U.S. Forest Service is holding an open house for the new Hidden Springs Ranger Station Saturday morning.

The open house begins 9 a.m. with introductions and a welcoming ceremony.

Between 9 a.m. and noon there will be games and activities for kids, fire engine demonstrations and displays of threatened and endangered species, the district's history, recreation opportunities, wildlife and openland management and the Shawnee Volunteer Corps.

At 9:30 a.m. there will be a slide show of the district's programs, a trail accomplishments slide show at 10:15 a.m., a visit by Smokey the Bear at 10 a.m. and placement of a time capsule at 11 a.m.

The center is on U.S. Route 45 in Vienna beside the former ranger station.
