The body of 28-year-old Flavio Venancio of Hanover Park was found May 25, 2001 in a pond near the Schaumburg train station. Authorities say he drowned after being beaten and stabbed.
A warrant for the arrest of Jose Camacho of Hanover Park was issued five days later by Schaumberg police, who say they believe he killed Venancio during an alcohol-fueled argument.
According to Schaumburg police, the FBI, the U.S. State Department and officials in Mexico worked together to apprehend the now 43-year-old Camacho.
Camacho was turned over the Schaumburg police Thursday. A Friday bond hearing is scheduled in the Rolling Meadows branch of the Cook County Circuit Court.
