Donald Gene Thomas, Sr.

Donald Gene Thomas, Sr., age 79, of Harrisburg, passed away at 4:30 AM, Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at his residence.

Donald was born December 9, 1936 in Harrisburg to the late William Henry and Mary (McCutcheon) Thomas. On October 14, 1956 he married Beverly Ann Bristow and she survives. Donald worked for the City of Harrisburg for 35 years as the Street and Alley Superintendent. He liked to fish and hunt arrowheads. He loved the outdoors and his family.

Surviving family members include his wife: Beverly Ann Thomas of Harrisburg; daughter: Mary Combs of Harrisburg; daughter: Ginny (Mark) Adams of Harrisburg; five grandchildren: Jami (Paul) Dunk of Belleville, IL, Ashley Thomas of Harrisburg, Jared Combs of Eldorado, Craig (Brett) Adams of Harrisburg and Sean (Brittany) Adams of Galatia; seven great-grandchildren: Gabe, Evan and Carter Dunk of Belleville, Jayce Combs of Eldorado, Griffin Adams of Harrisburg and Harley and Graycee Adams of Galatia; sister: Virginia Kingston of Harrisburg; several nieces and nephews.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, son, Donald Thomas, Jr., three brothers, George, Johnny and Norman Thomas.

Funeral services will be held at 1 PM, Friday, May 20, 2016 at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. Rev. Brent Holloway will officiate. Burial will follow in Liberty Cemetery. Visitation will be 11 AM to 1 PM, Friday, May 20, 2016 at Reed Funeral Chapel. For those who wish, donations may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
