'Great Inventions' theme of 2013 Pinckneyville Mardi Gras

Jill Fox, executive director of the Pinckneyville Chamber of Commerce, has announced the theme for the 2013 Mardi Gras Festival in October.

It is "Great Inventions" and the theme may hold some of the best possibilities for float builders in the history of the festival.

2013 marks the 91st anniversary of Pinckneyville's Mardi Gras celebration. The Chamber of Commerce recently asked the public for theme submissions for this year's event … and this year the response was tremendous! More than 180 entries were received making the selection of this year's theme really tough! After careful consideration of all the creative ideas, the Chamber of Commerce has chosen "Great Inventions" for this year's theme. The winning theme was submitted by Mary Ann Mann of Pinckneyville.

When selecting the winning theme committee members consider its appeal to all ages, ease of decorating (floats and costumes), as well as how well the theme may encourage creative ideas for the celebration.
