George Hunt called Monday reporting the incident on behalf of Dennis Hunt, owner of the property at 1150 Palestine Road near the intersection with Davenport Road, according to a sheriff's report.
Deputy Wes Bebout arrived to find the power pole had been cut down using a chainsaw and the copper wire leading from the pole to the electric meter had been taken. Three batteries that power an electric fence also had been taken.
A security light on top of the pole was broken.
The pole is property of Southeastern Illinois Electric Cooperative and the wire belongs to Dennis Hunt, according to the report.
George Hunt told Bebout someone had reported to him having seen a white Chevrolet flatbed truck in the area the night of the incident.
