VIDEO: After-Prom benefits from Galatia project

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Young ladies of the Galatia High School on Saturday had the opportunity to select and purchase a little-used formal dress for the prom at a very, very reduced price.

For the first time, the Galatia After-Prom Committee put together a prom-dress sale and organizer Cathy Cockrum was thrilled by the response.

"I have 11 dresses out there myself," she said.

Those wanting to sell a prom dress set a price for the sale and paid a fee to the After-Prom Committee as a fundraiser.

The project was successful for the junior class parents as about $900 was raised from the commission on the dresses.

Cockrum said the idea is not a new one. She had learned it works and is a success in other areas. Once it was decided to put together a prom dress sale, word was sent not only to Galatia belles, but to young ladies in other school districts.

Several from other schools, such as Bionca Massie of Zeigler and Nikki Jolly of Carrier Mills were on hand Saturday exploring the many dresses on hand.

In some instances, items other than the dress itself were provided, such as gloves and shoes.

Parents attending the showing also kept an eye out for dresses they believed a person would like. As a result, the moment Kandice Gulley arrived, she was routed straight to a dress it was believed she would find perfect to her taste.
