David Morris called Central Dispatch 10:15 a.m. Saturday from the intersection of Liberty Road and the entrance to Harrisburg Middle School and reported a man in a Toyota tried to run him off the road. Deputy Wes Bebout, Harrisburg officers Michael Riden, Terry Sisky and Bobby Ragsdale and Carrier Mills Police officer Steve Sloan responded to the scene.
Morris said as he approached 590 Ledford Road, Eric Bellamy, 53, pulled out of his driveway and blocked the southbound lane. Morris drove around him, but Bellamy began to chase him, according to a police report. At times, the Toyota truck driven by Bellamy was only a few feet from Morris' vehicle. Then the Toyota pulled up alongside Morris and tried to force him off the road, according to the police report.
Both men got out of their vehicles. Bellmay began shouting at Morris and told him he was making a "citizen's arrest," Morris told the officers. Morris showed Bellamy his badge, to no avail.
Bellamy continued to holler at Morris until police arrived. Bellamy told police Morris was speeding and he wanted to stop him and make a citizen's arrest.
Bellamy was arrested on charges of reckless driving and disorderly conduct. He posted $300 bond and was released from the Saline County Detention Center.
