2009 one of safest years on District 19 records

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Illinois State Police say 2009 was one of the safest years on record for District 19 in Carmi with only five fatal motor vehicle accidents, the lowest number for any Illinois State Police district, according to a release from the ISP.

For the year District 19 answered 5,417 calls for service.

Troopers wrote 6,165 speeding citations, made 193 DUI arrests, wrote 4,296 seat belt citations, 230 child restraint citations, 6556 warning tickets and made 693 criminal arrests.

Troopers assisted 1,113 motorists, conducted 1,532 motor carrier inspections and investigated 699 traffic crashes.
