With a strong start and an early lead, then momentum lost to some long ground gains by an opponent, and Saturday morning’s freshman clash between Eldorado and Christopher-Zeigler-Royalton started to take on the look of the previous night’s varsity contest.

In the end, the result was similar too, as Eldorado pulled away for a 44-14 win.
“We had to do the same kinds of things our varsity kids did,” said EHS freshman coach Scott Boyd. “They started to run the ball outside on us, and we had to make some adjustments with our defensive ends and corners. Our defense really stepped up at the end, and that’s a big thing, for freshmen to make those kinds of adjustments in-game.”

Boyd got scores from three running backs – Dylan Roberts, Derek Mitchell and Colton Edwards, as well as a rushing score from quarterback Nick Schimp.
Boyd credited his offensive line for opening up those holes.

“We had some situations where we had to move some people around this week, for different reasons. They really stepped up and performed well.”

The win gives the Eldorado JV a chance to complete a program-wide sweep of C-Z-R at 6:15 p.m. Monday at Christopher. The freshmen, meanwhile, go back to a Thursday schedule for the rest of the week, and host Elverado this week at 6:15 p.m.
