25 absentee ballots being sent out again

Newspapers deal with typographical errors all the time. Okay, we admit it.

The Perry County Clerk's office? Not so much.

Perry County Clerk Josh Gross felt a newspaperman's pain Saturday when the staff saw that it had mailed out 25 absentee ballots (ONLY 25) that listed Du Quoin commissioner candidate Dale Spencer's name as "Dale Spence"-- no "r."

Thirteen of the ballots went to a local nursing home. The other 12 went here and there.

It was a printer's fault. "All three of us here looked at it and didn't see it," Gross smiled.

The office quickly followed up with a letter to each voter suggesting they request a new ballot. If the typo didn't bother them or affect their vote they can use the ballot they got.

General ballots had not been printed yet and the typo was purged from the software used by the voting machines.
