CHS dance team takes 3rd; preparing for IDTA and IHSA competitions

The Chester High School Dance Team, coached by Adrianne Kern and Haley Williams, took third place in the class A pom dance category at the recent Belleville East High School Regional Dance Competition and have qualified for the Illinois Drill Team Association finals, which will be held Feb. 15 in Springfield.

The CHS pom routine is titled, "USA," and when performing their routine, the girls wear silver tops with red and blue poms. The team has 10 dancers and two alternates.

The team also will compete this coming Saturday in the IHSA competitive dance sectionals, beginning at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony School in Effingham.

Chester will take the floor at 11:12 a.m. The top five finishers in each category will advance to the IHSA state dance finals on Jan. 31-Feb. 1 in Bloomington.

Southern Illinois will be well-represented at the regionals: Du Quoin performs at 10 a.m. and Pinckneyville at 10:12 a.m. Other local squads competing in 1A are Carterville, Herrin, Johnston City, Marion, Mascoutah, Murphysboro, Nashville and Trenton (Wesclin).
