Harrisburg runs past West Frankfort on Day 1 of Harrisburg Invite

The Harrisburg girls' basketball team stayed perfect on the young season, improving to 3-0 with a 63-35 win over West Frankfort Monday night in the 34th annual Harrisburg Invitational at Davenport Gymnasium.

Four players finished in double figures for Harrisburg, who shot 47 percent from the field, including a 30 percent clip from 3-point range and were 42 percent from the free throw line.

Summer Sanders had a team-high 16 points for Harrisburg, while Essence Sanders tossed in 11 points. Stream Black and Lauren McDaniel both tacked on 10 points in the win.

West Frankfort was held to 42 percent shooting from the floor, but were 0-for-6 from 3-point range, while knocking down 5-of-6 free throws.

Nadia Gleghorn led the Redbirds in scoring with 17 points and was the only West Frankfort player to score in double figures.

Lydia Miler added eight points for the Bulldogs, while Kailyn Moss and Lauryn Gribble both had three points. Chelsea Davidson finished with two points.

Harrisburg returns to action on Wednesday against Carmi-White County at 7:30 p.m., and will play Anna-Jonesboro on Friday at 7:30 p.m. The Bulldogs will meet Eldorado on Saturday at 7:30 p.m in the finale.

Eldorado 57, Carmi-White County 48

Eldorado (2-0), watched what was a 20-point second half lead trimmed to five points at 49-44 with just under five minutes to play, hung on to take down Carmi-White County 57-48 in the first night of the Harrisburg Invitational.

The Eagles put three players in double figures as Paige Munds led all scorers with 19 points, while Lexie Mitchell scored 16 points and Emma Wargel tossed in 11 in the win.

Lilly Mosby netted nine for EHS and Karis Lane tacked on two.

The Carmi-White County duo of Sydney Lucas (16 points) and Elleigh Gray(10 points) led the way for the Bulldogs.

Eldorado is back in action tonight (Tuesday) against Anna-Jonesboro in the first game of the Harrisburg Invite at 6 p.m. On Friday, Eldorado will play West Frankfort at 6 p.m. and then battle host Harrisburg on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Gallatin County 59, Edwards County 43

Gallatin County put three players in double figures, including a season-high 22 points from Audrey Jackson as Gallatin County got by Edwards County 59-43 on the first day of the Hamilton County Lady Foxes Invitational.

Jackson, who finished a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line and had 10 points in the second half, was joined in double figures by MaKenzie Russell with 16 points and Gracie Sauls tacked on 11 points.

Gallatin County took a 14-10 first quarter lead and led 24-16 at halftime.

Carly Foster finished with five points for the Hawks (2-2), while Hallie Zirkelback tacked on three points and Molly Newton finished with two points.

Edwards County's Jenna Schnepper led all scorers with 27 points as she knocked down six 3-pointers in the game.

Gallatin County will play the host Lady Foxes tonight (Tuesday) at 8:30 p.m. and will take on Lawrenceville Friday at 5:30 p.m., followed by two games Saturday, the first against Wayne City at 10 a.m. and Cairo at 5 p.m.
