NCOE clips Harrisburg in home opener

The Harrisburg varsity and junior varsity volleyball teams both lost in straight sets to Norris City-Omaha-Enfield Tuesday night as the host Bulldogs kicked off their season.

The varsity team fell 25-13 and 25-11, while the JV team lost 25-14 and 25-17.

"Serve receive was a rough area for us tonight," Harrisburg head coach Heather Cox said. "A lack of quality passing led  to a lackluster offense. Combine that with a very aggressive, hard hitting NCOE team and it didn't end well for us. We had moments of some really strong play, just not enough to change the momentum in our favor."

Juniors Autumn Harrawood and Lauryn Gribble each had three kills and one block. Senior Daisha Locke had a kill and nine assists and sophomore Riley Harrison had eight digs.

Harrisburg was scheduled to play at West Frankfort Thursday. The Bulldogs will play in the Southern Illinois River-To-River Conference Volleyball Tournament Saturday at Carterville High School.
