Logan's Scrubb selected for USBA 2019 FIBA U19 World Cup Training Camp

John A. Logan sophomore Jay Scrubb has been selected to participate in the USA Basketball FIBA U19 World Cup Training Camp, June 15-24 at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO.

"It is a big honor to be selected to try out for a United States team," said John A. Logan coach Kyle Smithpeters, who will accompany Scrubb on the trip. "It will be a great opportunity for Jay to see how he stands up with his peers. He has worked very hard to get this far."

The team selected at the camp will represent the United States at the U19 tournament to be held June 29-July 7 in Heraklion, Greece. The FIBA U19 Cup is a 16-team international tournament featuring the best basketball players in the world born in 2000 or later. The USA team will be coached by Bruce Weber, head coach at Kansas State and a former head coach at SIU.

The team of 12 players will be selected from a pool of 34 invited players.

"The committee is excited at the level of talent that will be at the training camp." said fomer SIU and current Purdue head coach Matt Painter, chair of the USA Basketball Men's Junior National team Committee.

Last season Scrubb led Logan to a record of 27-5 and a ranking of fifth nationally. He was a first team All-American and was Player of the Year in NJCAA Region 24. Scrubb averaged 19.5 points and 8.6 rebounds per game while shooting 46% from three.

"It was crazy when I was notified that I had been selected to attend the U19 USA team camp that is preparing for an international tournament in Greece," Scrubb said. "It is very exciting, I've never been to Colorado or to Greece and this is a chance to show the rest of the country what kind of player I am."
