CHS football offers free youth camp on Saturday

The Chester High School football program is offering a free one-day football camp on Saturday for all 5- to 14-year-olds who will be eligible to participate in youth football this fall.

The camp will run from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the Chester High School practice field in the center of the Dr. Charles R. Young Track and Field Complex.

Chester Head Football Coach Billy Belton said the coaches and Yellow Jacket players will be there to encourage kids who want to play Chester Stingers Football this year.

"The overall objective of the camp is to teach the basic fundamentals of football in a fun, and exciting atmosphere," Belton said.

He said the campers will be grouped according to age and ability. In addition to basic fundamentals, campers will also be exposed to selected advanced drills and techniques.

Belton also noted that all drills will be performed in shorts and T-shirts. No helmets or shoulder pads will be needed.

Moreover, representatives from the Chester Stingers will hold registration for the upcoming Stinger season.

The schedule for the day:

8:30-9:00 a.m.: Registration

9- 10 a.m. Offensive stations/drills

10-11 a.m. Defensive stations/drills

11 a.m.-noon. Pass, Punt and Kick Competitions

Campers should wear shorts, T-shirts and some type of athletic shoes. Cleats/spikes are optional.

Registration forms have been passed out at all Chester schools. Forms are to be turned in at registration. Waiver claims must be signed by a parent or guardian before campers can participate.
