Du Quoin boys take first in Bob Karnes Relays

DU QUOIN - The Du Quoin Indians broke five meet records and led the overall scoring on Tuesday in the Bob Karnes Relays at Du Quoin High School.

Meet records were set by Du Quoin in the 110 hurdles, 4x200 relay, shot put, long jump and triple jump, according to results compiled by boys track Head Coach Derek Beard.

Out of the blocks in the first event, senior Shamar Adams won the 110-meter hurdles in 15.31, setting a meet record.

Senior Westly Milam won the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.60 seconds, followed by junior Dasani Edward at 11.82.

In the triple jump relay, Milam set a personal record to place second with a leap of 42 feet, 10 inches, finishing behind Edward who was the winner at 43-9. Overall, the Indians combined for 125 feet, 9 inches, a meet record.

Milam anchored the first-place 4x200 team of Adams, Anthony Cole and Ethan Zettler with a time of 1:32.79, a meet record.

Zettler, with Tyler Gassel, Carson Davis and anchor Darian Edward won the 4x400 with 3:39.59. Edward also took the baton from Davis to anchor the 4x800 with Jonathan Gomes and Wade Roberson for a 9:05.42 second-place finish.

Zettler, Gassel, Ashton Coffel and Adams placed first in the 4x100 shuttle hurdles, at 11:11.66.

Freshman Landen Swiney set a personal record in the 1600 meters, finishing first at 5:10.33.

In the 100-100-200-400 sprint-medley-relay, Du Quoin came in second at 11:57.61, behind Benton's meet-record 11:50.67, but the Indians won the 1600-meter sprint medley at 4:02.63.

Sophomore Toby Hottes set a personal record with a first in the discus at 139 feet thrown.

Junior Logan Robinson placed first in the shot put with a heave of 44-6.50. Hottes was in third at 42-9, and the Indians set a meet record with a combined shot put relay mark of 12404.5.

In the pole vault, junior Keenan Johnston placed first at 10 feet, 6 inches.

Senior Anthony Cole was in a three-way tie for first in the high jump. His 5-8 matched by junior Jacob Green and Fairfield's Reese Lee. Du Quoin placed first in the high-jump relay scoring, with a total mark of 16-10.

Cole set a personal record in the long jump, placing second with 20-10.50. Dasani Edward was third with 20-09. The Indians combined for a meet-record long jump distance of 61-4.5.
