Harrisburg flexes muscle at Fairfield

The Harrisburg softball team won back-to-back titles at the Fairfield Spring Swing over the weekend, winning three games and improved to 4-0 overall.

Harrisburg first knocked off Altamont 10-0, where Kerrigan Payne pitched her first career no-hitter. The Bulldog freshman went four innings, facing 12 batters and struck out three, while walking just one.

At the plate, Essence Sanders was 2-for-3 with four RBI. Madeline Rider, Karsyn Davis and Mya King all had one hit, while Davis had two RBI, including a two-run home run

In the second game, Harrisburg knocked off Pope County 15-3.

Payne picked up the win, allowing three runs on four hits with one strikeout and one walk.

Lydia Miller came on in relief and saw time in the circle for the first time since a sectional loss to Nashville at West Frankfort back in 2017.

Davis paced the Bulldogs at the plate, finishing 4-for-4 with four RBI and a three run home run in the third inning.

Rider also hit her first home run of the season, going 2-for-4 with two RBI. Hannah Reid, Sanders, Payne and King all had two hits. King finished with three RBI while Sanders drove in two runs and Payne had an RBI. Haley Sullivan was 1-for-1 with an RBI.

In the championship game, Harrisburg took down Edwards County 9-1 in six innings.

Payne is now 4-0 in the circle after picking up the win. She faced 21 batters and allowed no earned runs on two hits, while striking out eight and walking one.

Davis has now hit a home run in every game this year and went 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Maddi Ladd, Mackenzie Marshall, Rider and Sanders all had a hit and at least one RBI.

Harrisburg travels to Pope County on Thursday and will be at Eldorado Friday. On Saturday, the Bulldogs host both Galatia and Crittenden County, Ky., in a triple header, starting at 11 a.m.
