Eldorado shutout by Lions to start season

Eldorado stranded six runners on base and was outhit 9-5 in a 7-0 loss to Carterville to open up its season Wednesday on the road.

Braden Unthank (0-1) worked 3.2 innings, allowing seven runs on eight hits, while striking out two and walking three. Dalton White came on in relief of Unthank and gave up one hit, while striking out one in 2.1 innings.

At the plate, Bryant Byrd and White each paced the Eagles with multiple hit days. White was 2-for-3, while Byrd was 2-for-2. Joe Mayberry had the other hit.

Eldorado is scheduled to return to action Saturday as they travel to Mt. Carmel for a 12:30 p.m. game.
