Du Quoin gets drubbed by Nashville on Senior Night

DU QUOIN - The Du Quoin High School boys basketball team celebrated Senior Night on Friday but suffered a 69-38 beatdown from top-ranked Nashville as part of it.

The loss sends the Indians into the postseason with a 12-14 overall record and finished SIRR Mississippi Division play at 4-6 with three straight losses.

Nashville, which is 29-2 and went 9-1 in conference play, jumped out to a 25-5 lead in the first quarter.

Carson Parker scored 10 of his 18 points in the opening minutes. Bryce Bultman, who had 17, put in a three-point play and seven total points in the big early run.

Braeden Pursell hit a pair of 3-pointers for the Indians in the second quarter, but the Hornets still built their lead to 37-15 going into the half.

Parker, Bultman and Matt Anderson all had three-point play chances in the third period as the margin grew to 58-25.

Terry Pelczynski added nine points and both Anderson and Joe Morris had seven for Nashville, which is the top-ranked team in the Associated Press Class 2A statewide poll.

Josh Heape led Du Quoin with 10 points. Half of those came in the first quarter. Pursell scored all seven of his points in the second quarter. Anthony Cole had five and Kadin Mays chipped in four.

It was the last regular-season game for seniors Heape, Nick Cole, Anthony Cole, Westly Milam, Shamar Adams and Carson Davis.

Du Quoin now plays at the Anna-Jonesboro 2A Regional on Wednesday night against the host Wildcats. Those teams split against each other during the regular season. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
