Lady Indians fall in regional semifinals

WAYNE CITY - The Du Quoin High School girls basketball team had its season end Tuesday night with a 50-39 loss to Harrisburg in the semifinals of the Wayne City 2A Regional.

The Lady Indians finished with a 9-19 record. Harrisburg (27-5) advanced to its seventh straight regional championship.

The Lady Bulldogs took a 9-7 first quarter lead and led wire-to-wire. They shot 39 percent in the game, finishing 16-for-41 from the field, 4-for-16 from 3-point range and went 53 percent from the free throw line, going 14-for-26.

Harrisburg put one player in double figures as Karsyn Davis netted a double-double, scoring a team-high 19 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field and 3-of-8 from beyond the arc. Davis also pulled down a team-high 13 rebounds, 12 of which came on the defensive end.

Madeline Rider just missed out on double figures for the Bulldogs, tossing in nine points, while Summer Sanders scored six points, Brooke Meylor finished with five points, while Alli Ferrell and Essence Sanders each tacked on three points.

Du Quoin shot 16-for-50 from the field, finishing at 32 percent and were 3-of-16 from 3-point range for 18 percent. At the free-throw line, the Indians were 4-of-13 for 30 percent.

Harrisburg outrebounded Du Quoin 36-25 and forced the Lady Indians into 15 turnovers. The Lady Bulldogs had 17 turnovers.

Bailey Harsy and Elizabeth Bird each put up eight points for Du Quoin, while Katie Smith and Delaynie Dearmond each scored seven points. Morgan Bullar finished with four points, while Chloe Hill tossed in three points and Ayanna Dunklin tacked on two points.
