Breslin twins make college choices

PINCKNEYVILLE - Pinckneyville High School golfers Megan Breslin and Sarah Breslin signed national letters of intent to play collegiate golf for the the 2019-2020 season on Friday.

Megan signed with Southern Illinois University, while Sarah chose Lewis University.

In their historic senior season, the pair led Pinckneyville golf to a third place finish at the IHSA Class 1A state tournament, the first team appearance at state for Panther golf, along with its first Sectional title.

The team was also second at regionals and won the Mississippi side of the SIRR Conference Tournament for the second time in their four years at PCHS.

As the twins move to the college level separately, Megan will join the Salukis under head coach Danielle Kaufman in her second year at the Division I school. Megan's individual golf resume includes three consecutive top 10, All-State finishes at the state tournament, going from eighth to seventh to fifth this past season.

Megan was a four year All-Conference and All-South selection and was team MVP as a sophomore, junior and senior. At the top of the PCHS senior class academically, Megan plans to major in Health Care Management at SIU.

Among the factors influencing Megan's SIU decision were Kaufman's emphasis on team-building, encouraging players to participate together to eat, sleep, study, practice, and support other SIU teams as a unit.

Sarah will move northward to play golf for the Flyers of Lewis University and head coach Skip Steffey at the Division II school in Romeoville, Illinois.

In the Panther golf program, Sarah also made three consecutive trips to the state tournament, finishing 21st, 22nd and 12th. Sarah also was a four-year All-Conference and All-South selection.

She was the Panthers' MVP as a freshman and as a senior. In the top 10 academically of PCHS' senior class of 2019, Sarah plans to major in Management Information Systems with an emphasis in Cyber Security. Feeling welcomed to the beautiful campus by the coach and team members, Sarah's decision also was helped by the University offering the unique major program in her area of interest.
