Eagles rally to beat Cairo on Shewmakers' game-winner

Eldorado's Lydayyea Shewmaker stuck in a putback with two seconds to go Saturday to lift the Eagles to a 49-48 win over Cairo on the final day of the West Frankfort Mid-Winter Classic.

Shewmaker scored a co-team-high 10 points, while Joe Mayberry also finished in double figures with 10 points.

Aiden Whitlock netted nine in the win for Eldorado, while Bryant Byrd added eight points. Jace Jenkins scored six points, while Noah Smith finished with four points and Townsend Barton tacked on two in the win.

Eldorado went 2-2 at the West Frankfort Mid-Winter, picking up wins against Christopher and Cairo, while losing to Carterville and West Frankfort.

Mt. Carmel 71, Harrisburg 50

Darion Barners and Andrew Bittle both finished in double figures, but it wasn't enough as Harrisburg dropped a 71-50 contest to Mt. Carmel Saturday at the Carmi-White County Invitational Tournament.

Barners had a team-high 19 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field and 5-of-5 from the free throw line, while Andrew Bittle tacked on 12 in the loss.

Will Sanders scored seven points, while Jesse Lawler chipped in with six points. Will Gibbs finished with five points and Zayne Hayes tossed in a free throw.

Beau Stipp had a game-high 29 points for the Aces, while Austin Rager tossed in 23 points.

FRIDAY NIGHT

Fairfield 76, Harrisburg 41

Harrisburg hung tough in the early going, but when Fairfield made a decision to go inside midway through the second quarter and the Mules stretched which was a five-point, 27-22 lead into a 44-28 halftime lead and cruise to the 76-41 victory Friday night at the Carmi-White County Invitational Tournament.

The Bulldogs (4-14) got 11 points from Will Sanders and was the only Harrisburg player to finish in double figures as Zayne Hayes added eight points, including two first half 3-pointers.

Andrew Bittle and Connor Phalin each finished with five points, while Jesse Lawler and Brannden Watson both flipped in four points. Will Gibbs tacked on three points and Darian Barners tossed in a free throw.

Fairfield (19-2) got a game-high 18 points from Jayzale O'Neal, while Kane Hixenbaugh finished with 14 points and Brian Estes tacked on 13 points.

West Frankfort 65, Eldorado 43

Lydayyea Shewmaker scored a team-high 18 points, but was the only Eldorado player to finish in double figures in a 65-43 loss to West Frankfort Friday night at the West Frankfort Mid-Winter Tournament.

Townsend Barton scored seven points, while Jace Jenkins chipped in with six points. Joe Mayberry finished with five points, while Aiden Whitlock flushed in four points. Nolan Henson tacked on two and Noah Smith knocked down a free throw.

Gallatin County 54, Hardin County 46

Gallatin County put three players in double figures, including a game-high 15 points from Audie Goebel as Gallatin County picked up a 54-46 Greater Egyptian Conference win over Hardin County Friday night.

Dawson Hish finished with 14 points for the Hawks, while Robbie Prince poured in 10 points.

Garrett Rushing added eight points for Gallatin County, while Gunnar Wilson flushed in four points and Conner Kiesecomes tacked on three points.

Hardin County had two players finish in double figures as Gabe Fowler had 12 points and Jaron Austin had 11 points.
