Wrestlers fourth at Belleville

Benton High School's wrestlers placed fourth in the Civic Memorial Tournament in Belleville this past weekend.

"It's been the only top five finish we have had at this tournament since 2010, placing in 11 of 14 weight classes," said coach Aaron Robinson. "Our guys were tied with Vandalia and Civic Memorial heading into the last few rounds but their experience got the best of us."

Two BCHS wrestlers grabbed second place finishes: Peyton Swigonski and heavyweight Gabe Craig. And Austin Norris and Garrett Cardwell took third-place honors.

Other Rangers placing in the match were: Carston Sanders, fourth; Tyler Golliher and Logan Williams, sixth; and Judson Palmer, Ty Taylor, Isaiah Doty and Daniel Richardson, eighth.

In a tri-match at home earlier in the week, Benton defeated Carterville, 60-18; and lost to Anna-Jonesboro, 48-33.

The Rangers were scheduled to participate in a conference tri-match at Herrin on Tuesday and will host the Benton duals on Saturday evening at Rich Herrin Gym.
