Tyler Smithpeters joins JALC coaching staff

Former Saluki basketball player Tyler Smithpeters will be a volunteer assistant for his brother Kyle at John A. Logan College.

Tyler Smithpeters , who played on a state championship team at Harrisburg played four years for SIU. He will work with Logan's perimeter players while continuing his graduate studies at SIU.

Beginning his eighth season as an assistant will be recently retired State Police captain Charlie Jones. The former Logan player has served as a father and mentor to several NCAA Division I players. He works with the post players at Logan.

TJ Cox and Nate Richards return as assistant coaches. Cox joined the staff last season after previously coaching at Arkansas State. He works with conditioning and academics in addition to duties as the top assistant. Richards is in his third season on the staff after graduating from Murray State. He got a master's degree from SIU.

Marcus Walker will be in his third season as the team manager after serving for five years as manager at Simeon High School in Chicago.

Williams joins Shelby's staff

John A. Logan College has hired an assistant women's basketball coach with a championship background.

Kelsey Williams joins the Logan staff after playing on the NCAA Division II championship team at Central Missouri last season. She also led her high school team at Eminence, Mo., to a first ever state championship in basketball and played on the state championship volleyball team.

Williams is the all-time leading scorer at Eminence with 1,925 points and was named to the All-Tournament team at the NCAA Division II finals. She claimed the MIAA conference Academic Excellence Award with a 4.0 grade point average for her college career.

"I am super excited to start my coaching career at John A. Logan," said Williams. "It is a great opportunity to be mentored by Coach Shelby."
