Herrin moves up three spots in AP Prep Football Poll

After three straight fumbles against Waterloo, things didn't look promising for the Herrin in the season opener last week at the Graveyard.

Then the Tigers rattled off 23 unanswered points en route to a 23-7 victory.

The win helped Herrin jump up three spots in this week's Associated Press Class 4A Top 10 Prep Football Poll.

Rochester remained No. 1 in Class 4A, followed by IC Catholic, Morris, Rockford Boylan and Taylorville rounding out the top 5. Columbia comes in at No. 6, followed by Herrin, Richmond-Burton, Raby, Coal City and Belleville Althoff complete the top 10.

Herrin welcomes country rival Carterville Friday night for a 7 p.m. game at The Graveyard.

In Class 3A, Anna-Jonesboro and West Frankfort got Receiving Votes. Anna-Jonesboro, which got two receiving votes last week, got the same this week despite losing to West Frankfort 24-21 in the season opener.

West Frankfort, which got one vote, came from behind to beat the Wildcats last week at The Pit.

Anna-Jonesboro is at Murphysboro this week, West Frankfort is at Pinckneyville.
