Benton High School's golf team captured the Massac County Invitational title here Saturday, beating its nearest competitor by 11 strokes.
The Rangers captured the title by shooting a team total 307, outdistancing the field of nine. St. Mary was the runnersup with 318, followed by Herrin (324), Anna-Jonesboro (350) and Hamilton County (361).
For the 10th time in his career, Brendan Luster captured medalist honors, with a 72. Brad Hammond and Jared Shaw tied for sixth place with 78s and Robbie Moore tied for ninth with a 79.
Other team scores included: Eldorado 374, Paducah Tilghman 398, Harrisburg 399 and Vienna 404.
Benton saw its regular season streak of 60 straight victories come to an end on Aug. 21 when Herrin defeated the Rangers 157-165 in a quad meet at the Benton Country Club. Goreville (213) and Pinckneyville (215) also participated.
Hammond led Benton individually with a 39, followed by Moore's 41, Luster's 42 and Shaw stroked a 43.
Herrin's Drew Ringle was the match medalist with a 36.
Benton hosted a quad meet Tuesday with Massac County, Pinckneyville and Carterville and will host another quad match Thursday, hosting Hamilton County, Marion and Du Quoin.
