HMS softball struggles to start season

The Harrisburg Middle School softball team opened the season with a handful of losses as the Bulldogs were beat 20-4 by Massac County and 7-5 by Carmi. In the Marion Tournament, over the weekend, the Bulldogs were knocked off by Johnston City 11-1 and Carterville 6-2.

In the loss to Massac County, Brittany Morse, Abby Stacey, and Sofie Brombaugh all pitched for the Bulldogs, while Joey Quinn and Tessa Harrison each hit safely.

In the loss to Carmi, Brombaugh went the distance giving up five hits and walking five batters.

Tessa Harrison had two for the Bulldogs, while Abby Stacey and Brombaugh each had one hit.

In the loss to Johnston City at the Marion Tournament, Morse and Brombaugh both pitched while giving up seven walks and nine hits. Harrison had the lone hit.

In the loss to Carterville, Stacey went the distance in the circle, giving up seven walks, four hits and struck out two.

At the dish, by Abbey and Maysa Moore each had a hit.

The Bulldogs were slated to host Herrin Monday, followed by a trip to Carterville on Tuesday. Harrisburg will close out its week at the Carmi Tournament Saturday.
