Butler earns All-South honors

Harrisburg head girls' soccer coach Jason Butler said that if there was conference in soccer in the River-To-River, his junior striker and daughter Devin Butler would lead in every offensive category.

There isn't a River-To-River Conference, but there is an All-South and Butler was one of 11 other girls selected by the Southern Illinois Coaches Association.

Butler was one of four juniors joined by Marion's Marissa Basi and Blake Clark, along with Carbondale's Sage Nelsen.

Seniors included Murphysboro's Arie Ciganovich and Taylor Hobbs and Carbondale's Faith Golz and Claire Kippenbrock.

Two sophomores, Murphysboro's Lillie Schaldemose and Marion's Nicole Szidik, along with Murphysboro freshman Maci Uffelman rounded out the list.

Class 1A Coach Of The Year honors went to Murphysboro's Michael Lydy and 2A Coach of the Year honors was awarded to Marion's Jamie Clark Verbeck.

Butler capped off a 2018 spring campaign with 28 goals and 17 assists in 14 games, finishing with 73 total points. Butler concluded her sophomore season with 23 goals and 12 assists and despite playing a majority of her time on defense as a freshman, Butler still managed 11 goals.

Butler made All-South last season, joining then teammate Lexi Sirtak. Butler was the lone representative from Harrisburg this season.
