State champs! Pinckneyville duo wins bass fishing tourney

CARLYLE - The Pinckneyville High School duo of seniors Dalton Pyatt and Kyle Kreger won the IHSA's Bass Fishing State Championship on Saturday at Carlyle Lake.

This is the 10th year of the tournament. The Panthers finished second in 2014 and now have the bigger trophy.

Pyatt and Kreger were tied for first place with Rochelle after the first day, when they caught five fish weighing 9 pounds, 6 ounces.

Then on Saturday, the pair and boat captain Scott Kreger went back to the same spot and caught five fish at 8 pounds, 2 ounces for a total of 17 pounds, 8 ounces.

One of Farmington's teams came in second at 15 pounds, 11 ounces.

Friday's round was delayed over two hours by a thunderstorm and held in rainy conditions, while Saturday was sunny and in the 80s.
