Bulldogs beat Lake County at Dinger Classic

HARRISBURG - Harrisburg knocked off Lake County (Tennessee) High School 4-1 Friday in the Dinger Classic Tournament in western Kentucky.

The loss snapped a two-game skid as Harrisburg lost to West Frankfort 3-2 Thursday and 14-4 to Mt. Vernon on Wednesday.

In the win over Lake County, Easton Wallace was the winning pitcher as he surrendered one run on four hits over four innings, striking out two and walking one. Isaac Crabb and Will Gibbs helped Harrisburg close out the game in relief as Crabb recorded the last six outs to earn the save for the Bulldogs, striking out two.

Dalton Lambert, Will Holland and Gibbs all had two hits for Harrisburg as Lambert led with a team-high three RBI. Gibbs drove in one run, while scoring a run.

Carson Burtis and Crabb both had one hit with Burtis and Holland both scoring one run.

It came down to the last play, but Harrisburg was on the wrong end of a 3-2 defeat to West Frankfort Thursday.

The game was tied at two with the Redbirds batting in the bottom of the seventh when an errors score the winning run for WF.

Christian Williams took the loss for the Bulldogs. He lasted six and one third innings, allowing six hits and three runs, while striking out seven.

Harrisburg was held to five hits on the day as Wallace went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Gibbs, Lambert and Burtis each had singles with Burtis finishing with an RBI and Connor Phalin scoring one run.

In the loss to Mt. Vernon, Phalin took the loss on the bump, allowing 11 runs on 12 hits over three and two-thirds innings, striking out three.

At the plate, Harrisburg had just four hits with Kent Cletcher, Holland, Burtis and Wallace all having one hit.

Presley Gauch had a run scored , as did Wallace, Burtis and Holland.

Harrisburg (7-9) was slated to host Massac County Monday and then host Benton on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. The Bulldogs will host Carmi-White County on Wednesday and will be at Murphysboro Friday, before hosting Vandalia Saturday.

Eldorado splits against Carmi-White County, Crab Orchard

The EHS baseball team closed out the week with a 14-7 loss to Carmi-White County and then rebounded on Friday to beat Crab Orchard 4-3.

In the loss to Carmi-White County, Bryant Byrd and Dalton White combined in the loss. Byrd went four innings, allowing eight runs (five earned) on six hits, while striking out one and walking six. White went three innings and allowed six runs on six hits with five strikeouts and two walks.

The Eagles led 4-1 through two innings, but CWC rallied with a three-run third, followed by a two-run fourth and then scored four runs in the fifth and two runs in both the sixth and seventh inning.

Eldorado got a run back in the bottom of the fourth to trail 6-5 and closed out the game with two runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Kale Oglesby, who recently signed scholarship papers with McKendee University to continue his baseball career, went 3-for-5 with two runs scored in the lead off spot.

Jacob Traxler, who is headed to SIU on a football scholarship, matched Oglesby with three hits, going 3-for-3 with two RBI and one run scored.

Joe Mayberry, Nolan Milligan, Hunter Sizemore, along with Ben and Bryant Byrd all had one hit.

Mayberry drove in two runs, while scoring one. Bryant Byrd, along with Milligan and Sizemore all scored a run, while Bryant and Ben Byrd each had an RBI.

The Eagles rallied for two runs in the top of the sixth inning to beat Crab Orchard 4-3 on Friday.

Bryant Byrd got the win, relieving Sizemore, who went three innings and allowed two runs on two hits, while striking out two and walking three.

Byrd went four innings, limiting the Trojans to one run on two hits and finished with seven strikeouts and one walk.

Crab Orchard held a 2-1 lead after the first inning and then Eldorado knotted the game at two with a run in the top of the second inning. The two teams put up zero's through three innings and Eldorado broke the tie with two runs in the top of the sixth and were able to hold off Crab Orchard, who scored a run in the bottom of the sixth.

Kale Oglesby, Traxler and Sizemore all had doubles, while Traxler drove in two runs and scored a run. Oglesby scored one run, along with Byrant Byrd and Milligan.

Eldorado (2-9) was scheduled to be at Fairfield Monday, followed by a trip to Edwards County Tuesday (today) and will host Edwards County on Thursday, before closing out the week with a home game against Gallatin County Friday.
