Bulldogs get back to even with win over Murphysboro

Harrisburg improved to 6-6 overall and 1-1 in SIRR Ohio play with a 4-1 win over Murphysboro at Jay Thompson Field Monday afternoon.

The Red Devils led 1-0 until the bottom of the sixth inning, when Harrisburg scored all four of its runs.

Dalton Lambert led the inning off with a hard ground ball to center field and that was followed with a Presley Gauch single on a line to drive to center field, moving Lambert to third base.

Jack Martin then added a two RBI single to center, scoring Lambert and Gauch and following a Carson Burtis strikeout, Will Holland drew a walk and Martin advanced to third on a wild pitch. Easton Wallace then grounded out to second, scoring Martin and Kent Cletcher singled on a line drive to center, scoring Holland.

Harrisburg had eight hits on the day as Lambert and Martin both went 2-for-3 at the plate, while both scored a run and Martin finished with two RBI. Isaac Crabb, Gauch, Wallace and Cletcher all had one hit, with Wallace and Cletcher both recording RBI on the day.

Carson Burtis picked up the win on the mound as he went six innings, allowing one run on one hit, while striking out seven and walking four. Christian Williams came on in relief and pitched one inning of shutout baseball, striking out one and walking two.

Harrisburg was scheduled to play at Herrin Tuesday and will be at Mt. Vernon on Wednesday, followed by a trip to West Frankfort Thursday. The Bulldogs will wrap up their week in Mayfield, Ky., playing in the Dinger Classic Tournament at Graves County High School. Harrisburg will play Gosnell on Friday at 4 p.m. and will play Fox High School Saturday at 3 p.m., followed by a game against Grayson County High School at 5:30 p.m.
